Journal for Student Mission trip to Appalachia 2010

Wecome home team!

Below are journal entries from the students who participated in the 2010 Appalachia Mission trip:

In chronological order from the bottom up.

Hi it’s Katie Josephson again.  I was talking about serving in my last journal entry.  It was such a joy to serve along side your kids.  In one of our devotionals we talked about serving as Jesus did, and being a doormat for others. We are called to be others’ spiritual leader, but never their superior. This really stuck out to me.  “The son of man did not come to be served, but to serve” –Matthew 20:28.  We are called to serve others with a selfless attitude, and really lay our lives down.  Thank you all for all your prayers, support and love! We look forward to seeing you! :o)

Hello everyone! It’s Katie Josephson and I have had the pleasure to serve with the students (and your kids) as a leader in Appalacia. It truly has been an amazing experience.  The mountains here are absolutely spectacular.  They are surrounding us at the camp.  Once we drive through the town of Jonesville its about a 15 minute drive up and around the mountains.  Last night on our way home there was a breathtaking sunset over the mountains.  We stopped the car a couple times and sang praises to our Lord.  It was so cool to look down and see all your kids worshiping and in awe of God’s majesty.  This week we have had the opportunity to serve the camp and the school, as you have read about.  Our goal has been to be selfless and serve others as Jesus did.  Your kids have been incredible. They always work until the last minute, and constantly ask if there is something else that can be done.

Ok, so this is Joshua and GG… and we worked ALLLLL day. Yes ma’am. ALL DAY.

At the beginning of the day we split up jobs. First Joshua exercised his carpenter skills fixing benches for Tammy. I was meanwhile, fixing toilets with our buddy Doug Josephson (aka Deej). It was a messy job, but someone had to do it. After fixing the cabinets (which Joe said were superb) Joshua came to help us.

The bathrooms were so disgusting. They had a total cement interior that trapped  all moisture. Smart right? It’s the perfect place to breed bacteria and bug life. The toilets were rusting off the floor and were not even mounted correctly anymore. Another bathroom had all this inner stuff missing and we went to the store, like, twice, and STILL didn’t get everything. There was one where we had to lift the bowl up and all the dirty water spilled onto the ground. As this was happening, Deej was laying on the poop-watered floor trying to put the long-worn screws in properly. Epic fail.

There was one eerie bathroom with a very particular smell to it… Earlier, when the bathroom was cleaned, we thought the smell would eventually leave. It didn’t. We found it was a had-been nest of mice. Half decay, milky, and mushy. Delightful. Needless to say we buried them the good proper way; prayer, headstone, the whole shenanigans.

            We left the project exhausted, hungry, and wet with sweat and toilet water. There were 10 toilets attended to in one day. WOOTWOOT for our trio!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hey everybody! This is Luci Ohlman, Emily LePard, Haley Baas, Brenna McMann, GG Giem, and Libby Bradford. Yesterday, we did VBS for the kids and went to the pool for a well needed time of relaxation. On the way home, we encountered the most beautiful sunset!! It was right above the landscape of the mountains and we pulled over to watch. Some of us were even in tears! Once back in the van, we sang praise and watched the majesty until it disappeared from view. It reminded us why we were sent here in Appalachia.

         This morning, we woke up extra early and ventured outside to watch the sunrise over the mountains. We went and sat on a dirt road…on private property…? And we just sat there silently and watched. We were awestruck. When the sun finally broke out from behind the horizon, GG started singing and it was a moment of perfect peace. It’s too indescribable to put into words! We then held hands in a circle and prayed to ourselves as well as out loud. We headed back to camp knowing that we’d never forget this perfect morning.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hey y’all it’s Meg and Kara. So, it’s Friday. CRAZY. Today’s kinda been a lazy day – we’re just working on cleaning around camp and taking some car rides. Most of the group is at the school right now doing who knows what, but we’re sure someone will fill you in on that. Yesterday was… interesting, if you will. We took a trip to some park thingy with this huuuuge cave. That was awesome. Then we went to a pool. The boys had some fun flirting with the lifeguards. It just so happened that we ended up picking the dude lifeguard up and getting a picture with him…? Coincidence. We had pizza for dinner! It was scrumptious. Until, of course, I (Meg) got breadstick in my face thanks to Nilsy. We had a group bonfire last night after the team at camp cleaned it up. We won’t speak for everyone, but last night was definitely one to remember. The stars here are amazing! Seeing the mountains in the view never gets old – God’s creation is absolutely breath taking. Not to mention the fireflies. They are everywhere when it gets dark out. We’ve enjoyed the many cows and bugs and THE LLAMA ON THE HILL. We’ve had so much fun on this trip and are definitely going to miss camp after we leave tomorrow morning. Who knew that Virginia was like this? Love you all! Miss you

Well hey there.  This is Grant Mortenson and Evan Berkas the two coolest sophomores ever.  Not really but we’ll get there.  So this week has been great and we have gotten a great deal done around the camp and the school.  Both Grant and I worked at the school on the working days and also for VBS so we like to call it our second home.  Yesterday we met life guards and cheered on divers.  You missed out.   Ok work time toodles. God Bless.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is Mark and Nate. We have had quite the experience here this past week. Our puzzle pieces of spirituality have been constantly changing. Today we worked at the second VBS day at Stickleyville Elementary. The kids were a lot of fun and their energy and willingness to cooperate and listen amazed us. We played wiffleball and kick ball for minutes on end. Our spirits were lifted up because the kids truly wanted to learn more about Jesus and left a vibe that is still shaking the fallen walls of Jericho. After our morning of working with the children, we made our way to Natural Tunnel State Park in the afternoon. The sights were mesmerizing from above the tunnel as well as the mouth of the gargantuan tunnel itself. God’s presence was among us all as we looked upon one of his great beauties. We had a swell time, God Bless.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hey this is Brenna and Haley and Luci. Late last night the three of along with Emily LePard, GG, and Libby had a really wonderful heart-to-heart conversation. We talked about the most amazing stories and God-moments in our lives and the lives of those around us. Many of us really felt like we knew why God sent us to Appalachia. This talk went on for hours and continued to get more and more in depth. We ranged from talking about evolution to telling jokes and laughing outrageously together. Through it all it was evident that God was there in the room with us, guiding the conversation in the ways that He wanted it to go. There were many tears during this heart-to-heart but most of them were tears of joy, a joy that could only come from Our Heavenly Father. We ended this talk with a group prayer around 1:30 which made us cry even more. One of the things we prayed for was to have the energy we needed for VBS the next morning, because after so little sleep chances are we wouldn’t be very awake the next day. Every one of us during the next morning and the VBS felt the most energized we had all week and didn’t become sleepy until after VBS was over with. Brenna, GG, and Luci crashed in the car ride back and Haley nearly fell asleep as well, yet we were all energized not 5 minutes before. It was a true answer to prayer. Today God continued to send lots of little reassurances that we were meant to be here in Appalachia and nowhere else. We love you all and hope that life in Grand Rapids is as awe-inspiring as it is here. J

Much love,

Brenna, Luci and Haley

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Howdy y’all!

Luke and Nate here. Man all those coons, we kill em’ n eat em’ right on the spot ya hear. We had this rhubarb pie yesterday and we guarantee it be the best pie east a’ da Mississippa. People come from all o’er jus ta git a whiff of dis here pie, even Texas.

Okay we made all of that up, except the Luke and Nate part.

This trip has been a blast! We have been laughing constantly. We have equaled out the work time with the play time. We play euchre every chance we get, as well as spoons.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hello, this is Sean Baas and I am having a blast here in Appalachia. I have worked a lot and am having fun doing it with all of my friends. We went hiking on Tuesday and there were some great views on the way to the top where we could see the landscape for miles. I have met a lot of new people on this trip including a lot of the incoming freshman. The view at this camp is magnificent and we are right in the middle of the mountains. I can look out my window and see a great view of the mountains. Another great thing about this trip is that we are running a VBS type thing at a school and we get to help out a bunch of little kids. All of the kids are very energetic and always want to play so it takes a lot of energy but seeing the smile on the kid’s faces is worth it. One of the hardest things about this trip for me has been the heat. It is very hot down here and working outside in it is not very fun. I am looking forward to today because it is our second day working with the kids and we are doing a skit re-enacting the battle of Jericho for the kids. After that we are going to a cave and also a large swimming pool, that will be refreshing. This week has been great and I wish that I could come back again soon.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hey there! This is Will Sattler, and I am having a great time here in Lee County, VA. Well Wednesday was a good day, so I’ll write about it. Let’s start at the beginning… Getting up in the morning is hard I had asked DoJo (Doug Josephson) to wake me up 30 minutes early; I finally got out of bed ten minutes earlier. We started working right after breakfast, we got working. At first I started out cleaning up the fire pit area. But, soon after, was moved into the church to clean out the foam mattresses from the basement. Those things are a lot heavier that you would think! Anyways, after that we had to clean them, boy that was fun (sarcasm intended)! We then had lunch (I had a peanut butter and salami sandwich, which is better than you would think). I then cleaned the Men’s Bathroom. There was nothing else to do, so I played some Speed, Euchre, and Egyptian Rat Screw. That’s pretty much it. I’m done.  JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ

Dear Mom and Dad,

    I’ve had great time so far! And I wrote another journal earlier today with Luci. Ok I think I’ll start with the bad news, My camera broke and needs to be fixed at a camera shop, and no I didn’t break it(i.e. I didn’t drop it) L oh well ill try to keep you posted then. Um like I said in the other letter Luci and I have been working in the kitchen all day, cooking and sanitizing and my hands reek of bleach (but I seem to be the only one who likes the smell though) Its been great on my first work day I sorted and folded mouse ridden sheets, pillows, quilts, and pillow cases all day long (like I’m not kidding like 5 hours!!) Then Katie, Mrs. Skinner, Toria, and I went to the laundry mat. IT WAS SO FUN! It was a 70’s style (like mustard yellow washers and wooden panels on the wall) and it was part of a small thrift store. Every hour this crazy coo coo clock went off! Hahaha I got inside of one of the washers….that was funny. By the end we were all slap happy (well who wouldn’t be after spending 4 ½ hours at a laundry mat?) And everybody’s real personalities came out and it was really funny! There was one load still going and it stopped and Mrs. Skinner goes “Is it done? Thank God!” haha. our feet hurt sooooooo bad (not kidding my feet we about to fall off!!!) so we sat on top of the shaking washers drinking a coke and then we were like “were all complaining about our feet while sitting in a laundry mat on a washing machine drinking a coke while every one else is working on de- weeding! We all burst out laughing! And the most amazing thing happened. Kendall was working when all of a sudden a woman came out and went up to her. She told Kendall her life’s story. Apparently she just got out of jail a year ago for drugs and she’s trying to get clean and she has a trial soon. She told her about how the devil took his grip on her and how she’s changed with Jesus. When Kendall shared that I was amazed. Like God has a plan and he’s using us to help people here in Appalachia (a-p-a-la-chia) Ive made soooooo many new friends!!! Luci Ohlman, Haley Baas (H-a-ll-ee not haily) she’s going to be a senior but like were like best buds the first night we talked for 2 hours(lets just say going to bed at 1 and then getting up at 7 isn’t the funnest thing) I’m literally talking southern now( no joke I am talking southern without trying) ahhhhh!!!! Hahaha! We climbed up this mountain and I got to stand on three states at once!!!! (Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia.)  The climb was horrible! It was literally straight up, really 90 degree angle! But it was a great view! Too bad my camera broke! Oh well! I’m not going to be a downer!!! We also watched a video about the Cumberland Gap and it was really funny 2 guys fell completely asleep, everyone was taking pictures! Ha! The Cumberland Gap was outstanding! We drove by just as the sun was turning pink and red right in front of it. I had an epiphany. God made this gap so that people could get west, that’s really cool. The mountains are AMAZING!!!!! I can’t even describe to you of them! There all covered in trees and the kinda look like the hills in Twilight! J  That car ride was the best car ride ever (1hour) I sat between Haley and Luci and GG was sleeping and Libby was ignoring us because she had a headach. We laughed for about 15 minutes straight none stop! My stomach hurt really badly! Haha it was a-w-e-s-o-m-e! All the guys shaved their heads! And got Mohawks! Libby’s dad shaved them all and it was really entertaining! One guy got the Avatar arrow! We painted it blue. I’m not sunburned yet! WOO WHOO! Were not sleeping outside!!! Yayayayay!! They only had time to “clean” the boys cabin not the girl so were staying in the family quarters!!! It’s awesome! My room is the only one with all 4 grade levels in it. Me freshmen, Luci Sophomore, GG junior, Haley Senior. And mom, I found out that they have been having a problem with one specific bug…. THE BROWN RECLUCE SPIDER!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!! I know ironic right? Well I better go, LOVE YOU ALL!!!

Bye Y’all, Brenna McMann

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hello everyone! It’s Luci Ohlman and Brenna McMann! We are currently smelling of bleach and talking with southern accents! Being around the people has rubbed off on us and now we’re adopting their dialect, without even trying! We smell of bleach because we were given the task of cleaning a rancid freezer. It smells like someone threw in 20 live rabbits and left them to die. IT’S HORRIBLE. But, we’ve cleaned it once and now we’re off to do it again after this journal! Me: Brenna, put Vicks vapor rub under my nose to stand the smell!

Yesterday, we climbed a mountain up to the point where you could stand on 3 states at one time (Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky). It was a straight up climb, but most of us ran the way down! That was a blast.

We just finished making Rice Krispy Treats for dessert later with Victoria Woolpert. It was endless cleaning of the marshmallow covered pans! But our appetites helped solve that problem!  Before that, we were in charge of sweeping the main floor while blasting music out of Brenna’s headphones. We came across a new friend! His name is Turret because his antennae were flipping wildly without stopping! Whenever you suddenly touched him, he played dead. (He did that twice.) But he’d keep his head high and spring back up in our arms! (True love right there, y’all.) He was pleasantly exploring our fingers when suddenly he took off into the air and headed straight towards the florescent lights above!!!!!!! We hollered and Brenna scrambled aimlessly to find the off switch for the light, as Luci bravely sacrificed Brenna’s scrub shirt to save Turret! Once he was enveloped in the blue fabric, he, of course, played dead, (We didn’t think it was very convincing…) as a white fluid oozed out of his neck! We cried. Well, not quite. For he was up and running soon enough! It was so dramatic…he slowly dragged his scraggly limbs out from under him and his left leg appeared to be broken badly. But, one by one, his legs and antennae sprang out from underneath him! AND HE WAS FREE! So that’s just about it for today’s adventures! Thank you for attending Story Time with Luci and Brenna. Have a good day, y’all!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hey this is Katie Hollemans and Toria Woolpert. Today was a brutal day of work. Having breakfast at 7:30, which meant we had to wake up at 7 o’clock sharp. You know how us girls like our beauty sleep-so some of us were a bit cranky to say the least, but we shook it off and started to get to work. Our first mission was to weed the ENTIRE basketball court, which consisted of weeds taller than Winney(Mrs. Winer) and sharp enough to kill someone. It’s unbelievable that we are still alive ‘cause it looked like a deadly rain forest. After over 4 hours of nonstop pulling and throbbing of our hands, Katie began to cut more weeds with the weed wacker and Toria went to the kitchen to make delicious rice krispie treats for tonight’s dinner/dessert/devotion time. To let everyone know we are having a FANTASTIC time. The kids here are so adorable with their accents that they converted us to talk that way also. So now our group talks in a southern accent. Pretty fun, don’t ya think? We miss our church family back at home, but we know this is a wonderful experience that is affecting not just the people around us, but our group as well. The weather here is extremely hot and sticky, but its all worth it for the pounds we are losing and the beauty around us. One more thing before we must skat. While we were weeding, Toria found a baby toad that we named Hubba. Katie thought the toad was cute, and then decided to go shoot some hoops. During this action, Toria brought Hubba over to see Katie playing. Katie shot the ball, MADE THE BASKET and she was excited. Toria set the toad next to Katie in the path of the basketball, needless to say, the toad is now deceased. The force of the basketball going with gravity was too much for the toad to sustain. HAHAHAHAHA. Alrighty, that’s our story for the day.

Bye. Peace. Love. And. Coco. Puffs.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Today was a great day. In the morning we had delicious cereal. After that we had a rather time-consuming bus ride. It was certainly worth it! We had an ideal day. We were at the Stickleyville School and I volunteered my time to aid the kids with their boredom. We played kickball, Frisbee, and wiffleball; in addition to those activities we performed a “skit” if you will about the 12 disciples and Jesus in a storm. We then headed to a delicious lunch that consisted of tacos, fruit, and some rice here and there. Later we ventured to the vast mountains of Appalachia. The trails were rather confusing but when we stuck together we survived. At one point I was standing in three states at once, it was quite the experience. Later we went to the “overlook” It was one of the most terrific views of my life. After another lengthy travel we ended up in the covenant mountain mission bible camp. Now I must leave you.

Farewell, Sam Oostendorp

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hello! This is Victoria Woolpert and Grant Mortenson!!!!!!!WOOOOOO!!!!! BFFS!!!!! JJJJJJJJJJJJJ Were having no fun at all…ha ha!!!!!!!!! Actually this trip as been a blast and awesome experience. Too bad your missing it…HAHA!!  Today Grant and I made up a piano song in the camps chapel after devotions.  Sorry you can’t hear it.  I (victoria) went to the laundry mate and spent about three hours washing linen from the camp! It was soooo much fun, I am serious! With the help of Katie Josephson, my Aunt Julie Skinner, Brenna and I we made it fun! But, this wasn’t any ordinary laundry mate it was also a tanning booth, vintage store, and laundry mate! The lady that worked there had a southern accent ( as all the people in Virginia did) and asked right away where we were from. The nice hospitality and warm encouragement through out the three hours we were there she was very welcoming! With Brenna getting tired and sitting in the dryer, yes the dryer, to Aunt Julie asking if we can fit a painting from the store in the van and bring it home this was one of my favorite days!!!!! I (Grant) went to the school to clean a 800 foot fence and reconccrete some other fence and even weed.  It was fun then I broke a toe playing soccer I think.  I even buzzed my head with a number 1 (its short), last night. I’m having fun, well we both are. We miss you guys…sorta…ya we do to a certain extent. Today we are going to have a vbs at the elementary school! Wish you were here! Talk to you later!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hello parents!! This is Kara Josephson, it has been such a blast so far. Today we went to church and we all sang in front of the few people in the church. We have been playing volleyball, cards, spoons, and just hanging out. I can tell it will be an awesome experience through out the week. It is sooooo hot here, but its really nice & there are lots of bugs. (hi mom and kyle! Love you soo much!) Goodbye everyone!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hi Michiganders! This is Katie Hollemans. We are all having so much fun these past two days. The mountains here are beautiful and the view is spectacular! Everything has been great besides the HUMONGOUS bugs. We have been warned about the fiddle spider and the black widow. This scares those who sleep outside(the boys) while us girls get to sleep inside!!! AW YEAH!!!! It’s dinner time, so I must go but I will talk to you all later. I hope it’s not too hot there but here it’s in the high eighties. Oh gosh. Peace out Michigan. Love you mom, dad, scootsy and mark J

Hello everyone! This is Haley Baas coming at you live and local from Jonesville, Virginia located in good ol’ Appalachia! Today was our first work day, one of 3 that will be happening this week. I headed out to the Stickleyville Elementary School to start out the day. We were sent out into their front yard area to weed the flower beds and other areas of that nature. Libby Bradford and I ended up working together on that and even found a cute little toad we named Ralph that brightened our day. After the weeding was done we got to clean the fence of the school. Through the cooperation of about 8 people we were able to get the entire fence sparkling clean in record time. Then it was back to the camp to get lunch. When we got there we discovered that the people who had been working at the camp (we were split into two groups) had experienced an exciting day of everything from cleaning cabins to slip n’ slide. After lunch there was more work to be done and I was able to walk around the whole camp for the first time, checking everything out. It’s an adorable little camp and located in a breath-taking location. It’s been raining on and off this afternoon, but that’s a welcome change from the intense heat that was around before. Tomorrow we head off to do our first VBS at the Elementary School! It’s so exciting. Have fun in the lovely state of Michigan. I love you dad and Kees. See you all in about a week!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hi everyone!  This is Libby Bradford.  This mission trip to Appalachia has been absolutely amazing.  The camp is beautiful and we have made memories to last a lifetime.  For the past couple hours it has rained off and on, but that made up for the extremely hot weather we had yesterday and earlier today. The weather was pretty good for just sitting around outside but my group were doing yard work at an elementary school (the other groups were helping out around the camp).  We weeded and cleaned a fence.  The weeding was fun especially because I found one of my new best friends with Haley Baas, Ralph the toad.  He is very cute and crazy.  After set out to clean the never ending fence.  When we finally finished, we went back to camp for lunch.  Then, we caught up with everybody and talked about our busy days.  After, we did some sweeping and cleaning up around the camp.  I can’t wait to go back to the school tomorrow for VBS and go back later to do more fix-ups around the yard.  I love you Mom, Kristen, and Kelly! See you on Sunday!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hi everyone, this is Emilio and Luke G.  Currently we are taking a break from working while the other guys are moving wood out of a shed.   This, along with cleaning out dirty cabins and guest houses are some of the tasks that need to be completed during our stay here at Covenant Mountain Camp, Jonesville, Virginia.  One downside is the very humid weather and the large amount of bugs. We have had some fun in our free time, such as playing Ultimate Frisbee and soccer. Just want to let everyone know we are having a fun time and are learning a lot of new things and we would also like to say hi to our families back home. See ya in a week!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hello Mom and Dad and all of Thornapple!

            So far the trip has been great. On the way up me and a group of girls went in the van and called it the Ladies Van! But Josh Skinner was in the car too so we called it the Ladies Van + Josh! It was very fun. On the way up we spent most of the time making bracelets and getting to know each other a little better. I met a lot of new people! Once we got here we found out that we got an air conditioned cabin while they guys had to sleep in a 2 walled cabin outside! They warned us about the bugs and ticks that we might get and of course 10 minutes later Grant got a tick on his leg! I room with Kara Josephson, Libby Bradford and Emily LePard! It is a great room! Later that night we did devos and wrote encouragement cards. I really like to write them!! Many girls stayed up till like mid-night just talking and hanging out. Today we got up a little early for breakfast and got ready for church. The church was a little far away but once we got there it was a cute smaller church. We double their whole congregation. They were very welcoming and invited us in. Luci Ohlman, Haley Baas, Mark Washburn, Meg Treiber and Colin M spoke in front and did great! After church we hung out for a while and then headed off to Stickleyville School to see where we were going to hang out with the kids for tomorrow. We came back to the camp and had a great lunch and then organized everything for playing with the kids the next day! Oh yeah and HI MOM!!!!! Don’t miss me too much!! Alrighy well keep on praying for us and the students going to the DR!!

God Bless, Kendall Datema J

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

 Hello …it’s Grant, I’m having a blast.  Hi mom, and dad.  I was the first one to get a tick on my leg…yep I’m cool…nope.  Well the camp is pretty cool. We will have a lot of stuff to work on.  Right now we are practicing our little skits for some kids. Well I’m not really paying attention. Church today was fun, the people were very friendly. Every where you look in our little 3 wall cabins there is a bug…its gross. I hope your doing good, I may write more later.

Ok bye Grant

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hey there, it’s Meg. This trip is awesome so far! Let’s see… the bus ride down was HOT, but it was still a good time. We named it the party bus, but decided “loser cruiser” was more fitting. Our drive consisted mostly of napping and friendship bracelet making. I’m pretty sure Grant made around 20. He’s boss. Anyway, we met some crazy guy at the gas station. He was telling us jokes while we waited in line; I thought that was pretty (no pun intended…?) Camp is grand. The boys seem to be roughin’ it quite a bit worse than the girls. We have been blessed with clean showers. And did I mention the air conditioning? It’s definitely more than I anticipated. Currently we’re kinda just hangin’ around camp. Some of the girls and I are helping in the kitchen and there’s volleyball and such going on outside. Church was by far a new experience for the majority of us. We more than doubled – maybe even tripled – their congregation. So… yeah that’s about all I have to say as of now. Keep everyone in your prayers! Mostly the boys and their buggy sleep quarters. Shout out to …. Kristine, Berthold, Lor, Jack & Pete, Momma Jo, Rhonnie and everyone else!

Love all y’all! -Meg (:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hello from Appalacia!  That would be Apple-at-cha as we learned today!  It was a pretty uneventful bus ride as all the usual suspects were there, the sleepers, the jokers, the screamers, the readers, the bracelet makers, the card players, etc.  We thank God for a safe trip and good bonding happening in the bus, the van, and the Yukon.  Worship this morning was awesome!  Colin, Mark, Haley, Luci, Meg and Tom did a super job sharing and the singing by the group brought tears to my eyes!  We prepared for our first vbs day today and everyone is so excited and ready to hang out with the kids in Stickleyville.  Thanks for your prayers!  We will keep updating for you!

Love to all y’all, Linda Winer
