Scrip

Using SCRIP helps you and helps Thornapple!

What is SCRIP?

Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase Scrip, you are purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use Scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials. With every purchase you earn revenue for our church and for your individual church connected activities.

How does Scrip generate revenue?
The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of organizations to purchase large amounts of Scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the Scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our church buys the Scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount – from two to fifteen percent or more – generates the revenue. A portion of the revenue goes to the church and a portion goes into accounts for each family. The money you have earned is held in an account for you by the church until you request it. You can use the money in your Scrip account for church related activities.

Scrip is a good fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. Revenue is produced by making regular household purchases you would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, and even gasoline can be purchased with Scrip.

How has Scrip been used at Thornapple?
Scrip revenue has been used by Thornapple members in many different ways, such as sending high school students to CHIC, sending participants on mission trips, and helping children go to Portage Lake Bible Camp and to church retreats.

Many families and individuals, who have earned money with Scrip, have also chosen to donate all of their earned revenue to the church to add to their support of the ministry of Thornapple.

How do you get started?
If you would like to participate, there are two ways to place orders:

  1. Forms are at the Welcome desk in the Narthex or you can download the form on this page under "Related Downloads." These forms list all of the stores that participate in the program and allow you to choose which stores you want your Scrip for. You simply complete the form and turn it into the church office. Scrip orders should be placed in the Scrip mail slot in the office copy machine room. Your check must accompany your order. Scrip orders are submitted twice a month (first and third Tuesdays of each month) and are usually ready for individuals to pick up at the Church office on Fridays (of Scrip weeks) between 9 am and 4 pm.
  2. You can also order Scrip online. Go to www.shopwithscrip.com, set up an account for yourself with TECC-Thornapple Evangelical Covenant Church/GR. The enrollment code is 2FL46AEE469.

If you have any questions about Scrip contact Shelley Hill shill@thornapple.org or 957-0580 (Shelley works Thursdays and Fridays).
