  1. Jesus has dinner with the wrong people.
  2. It’s easy to see ourselves as too bad for God or too good to associate with bad people.
  3. Jesus introduces new categories for people.
  4. All sinners are welcome at Jesus’ table.

  1. Who do you identify with most readily in the story? Why?
  2. What other kinds of people would church people not tolerate today?
  3. In what ways can you slide into self-righteousness?
  4. Is there some part of your life that needs Jesus’ healing power today?

Support the ministry and mission of Thornapple through the regular practice of giving generously from the financial resources entrusted to you by God.  
August giving was below budget by a very significant amount, although we remain slightly above budget year-to-date.  We are trusting that giving will recover in the upcoming months as we count on your generosity to support God’s work through Thornapple.  Thank you!
Your financial gifts can be:
  1. Made online through our online giving platform 
  2. Mailed to the church office (6595 Cascade Rd. SE; Grand Rapids, MI 49546)
  3. Placed in the offering box at the Welcome Center

Events

  • Volleyball and Basketball (Teens + Adults) | Everyone interested in playing is welcome to join us for pick-up games in the Community Center, Wednesday evenings, 7-9pm (as follows):
  • WholyFit | Fridays, 9:30-10:30am in the Community Center (no childcare)
  • Men's Small Groups | Groups meet 4 times during the week (Mon. evenings and Fri./Sat./Sun. mornings) and welcome new participants to any of these groups. Learn more and sign up HERE.
  • Senior Adults | 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at 10:30am (in-person and over Zoom). Details HERE.
  • Managing Worry and Anxiety Workshop |  Monday, Oct. 25, 7-8pm at Thornapple led by an expert from Pine Rest Christian Mental Health. Learn more and register HERE.
  • Why Financial Wisdom & Generosity Matter at Year-End Seminar | The Generosity Team invites you to a FREE half-day workshop on Saturday, Nov. 6 (9:30-12:15) at Thornapple. This event is open to the public and will feature an opening session, panel discussion and sessions led by experts focusing on stewardship, managing finances and tax-wise giving. Teaching Pastor Search | We are accepting applicants for our the Teaching Pastor position.
Pine Rest Church Assistance Program | Complimentary counseling (and other programs – just say “I have a CAP with Thornapple Covenant Church” when you call to make an appointment) for you and your family and access to a virtual library of mental health resources (use the password “Thornapple” when prompted). Learn more HERE.
Stephen Ministry | Going through a crisis or having a difficult time? Maybe you could benefit from receiving care in a one-on-one partnership with a trained Stephen Minister. Contact Lynne McLaughlin
Benefit Mobile Fundraising for Children and Students | Did you know Thornapple participates in the Benefit Mobile fundraising program? It is an app you can use right on your phone and can be used at many places you already shop, like Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Amazon, etc… Funds raised can be used for retreats, trips, Portage Lake, etc… If you are interested in learning more or signing up, contact Linda Winer.

Making a Difference

  • Bake Cookies | Sign up HERE to bake 2-dozen cookies for the Senior Adults Meetings.
  • Be a small group leader or teacher once a month with Children's Ministry. Email Lisa Udell to sign up.
  • Meals for Degage | Can you help make breakfast or dinner casseroles in Thornapple’s kitchen for Degage Ministries? It’s simple! If you’d like to know more, contact Karen Knister  for details.
  • Fully vaccinated and love hanging out with babies/toddlers? Children’s Ministry could use your help as a Nursery volunteer on Sunday mornings. Please contact Lisa Udell if you are able to help and she we get you on the schedule!
