Support the ministry and mission of Thornapple through the regular practice of giving generously from the financial resources entrusted to you by God.  
Your financial gifts can be:
  1. Made online through our online giving platform 
  2. Mailed to the church office (6595 Cascade Rd. SE; Grand Rapids, MI 49546)
  3. Given during in-person worship on Sunday mornings

Giving surpassed budget in October, and we continue to be above budget year-to-date.  In addition, there were five new donors in October.  We are praising God for your faithfulness and for these new donors!

Events

  • College/Recent Grad Brunch | Sunday, Dec. 4 following worship. For anyone college-aged or just beyond, we invite you to join us for a free brunch and fellowship following worship. If you need a ride back to school, no worries, we're happy to take you back after the meal! Can you donate/make food to feed our students? Sign up HERE.
  • *Virtual* Starting Point | Sunday, Dec. 4, immediately following worship on Zoom (Meeting ID: 885 7187 8670; Passcode: 055445). Join us to: meet leaders and others new to Thornapple, learn about Thornapple and ask us your questions.
  • Church Venting: Yes Jesus, No Church | Thursday, Dec. 8, 8pm at Thornapple Brewing Company. Some people still love Jesus but not the Church. If this is you or someone you know, come to a vent session with Pastor Andrew. You can expect an attentive ear and curious posture. 
  • Pastoral Installation & Reception | Pastor Julia and Pastor Lynne will both be installed during the Sunday, Dec 11 worship service. Thank you to everyone who voted on Sunday (we had 100% approval for call Lynne as our Pastor of Community Life and NextGen Ministries). There will be a reception immediately following worship for Pastor Lynne!
  • Advent Lights Service | Sunday, Dec. 11, 4pm in the sanctuary. Are you mourning the loss of something or someone this Christmas season? It could be a loved one, a job, a broken relationship, the passing of a life stage or any other loss you might think of. Join others from your church family for a time of reflection and remembrance.
  • Degage Christmas Store | Help stock Degage's Heartside Christmas Store: The store provides the men and women Degage serves with the opportunity to purchase low-cost gifts in a dignified manner. We'll be collecting items at Thornapple through Dec. 11 (you can place unwrapped items from their list - found HERE - under the Christmas trees in the Lobby 12/4 and 12/11) or you can shop their Amazon Wish List and items will be sent directly to Degage.
  • Family Promise Hosting | Thornapple is hosting Family Promise families again Dec. 26-31. Sign up HERE to volunteer during this week. Sign up HERE to donate items to help with hosting. Contact Diane Hartung with questions. 
  • Christmas Eve Worship | Saturday, Dec. 24 at 4:30pm (in-person and livestream). In the Sanctuary, all welcome to join us in celebrating Jesus' birth! Nursery in the lower level for birth-3-years-old. 
  • Christmas Morning Worship | Sunday, Dec. 25 at 10am (in-person only, no nursery); join us for carols and a message from Pastor Julia.
  • Hearts for Sewing | Noon-3pm the 4th Tuesday of every month. Learn more about this group HERE.
  • Lunch & Learn for Senior Adults | Meets the following Thursdays this fall at 10:30am for fellowship, a brief program and lunch: Dec. 8/22. Sign up HERE to provide cookies or soup for the group.

Going through a crisis or having a difficult time? Maybe you could benefit from receiving care in a one-on-one partnership with a trained Stephen Minister. Contact Lynne McLaughlin

Making a Difference

  • Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Opportunities | Saturday, Dec. 3, 12:30-3:30pm, Help staff a Family Craft Day at the Baxter Community Center (935 Baxter St SE, GR). Volunteers will help families make holiday decorations and coordinate craft activities with the kids. All materials will be provided. Contact Sarah Poole to volunteer.
    Saturday, Dec. 10, 12-4pm, Help decorate Joe Taylor Park (1001 Baxter St SE, GR) and the homes surrounding the park prior to the evening Tree Lighting. Volunteers will enjoy hot cocoa while hanging lights and decorations around the neighborhood! All materials will be provided. Sign up HERE. 

  • ICCF Work Day | We have set up a work day at ICCF (Inner City Christian Fellowship) for Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023 from 9am to noon.  Work will depend on the skills of the volunteers.  There will be projects that require no skills so all are welcome!  The tasks will be inside and the home will be heated. If you are interested in volunteering email Karen Knister (karenjk@comcast.net) by Monday, Dec. 19.

  • Soup and/or Cookie Makers | Provide food for our bi-weekly Lunch & Learns for Senior Adults. here are four dates open before the end of the year. Sign up HERE.

  • Tech Booth Team | Sunday morning tech booth volunteers needed for on-screen slides, monitoring livestream sound and more (we'd love to add to our sound board volunteers but this requires more extensive training which we can provided to anyone interested in learning) - adults and teens welcome; training provided. Email Kimberly Korpak.

  • Love hanging out with babies/toddlers? Children’s Ministry could use your help as a Nursery volunteer on Sunday mornings. Please contact Lisa Udell if you are able to help and she we get you on the schedule!
